Instagram Followers You Don't Follow Back (Your Fans)

Short answer

The people who follow you that you don't follow back are the one group Instagram half-shows: their profiles carry a Follow back button, but there is no list of them anywhere in the app. Your data export has both your followers and your following files, so the set can be computed. Upload the ZIP here; the count of these accounts — your fans — is free.

A fan, as this tool uses the word, is an Instagram account that follows you while you do not follow it — a username present in your followers list and absent from your following list in the data export.

How it works

  1. 1

Request a Followers and following export

In the Instagram app go to Settings and privacy → Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Export your information → Create export. Pick your Instagram profile, tick only Followers and following, set the date range to All time, the format to JSON, and choose Download to device.

  2. 2

Collect the ZIP when Instagram emails you

A followers-only export is normally ready in 10–20 minutes. Instagram sends an email with a download link that stays valid for four days; the same file is also listed on the Export your information screen.

  3. 3

Upload the ZIP on this page

Pick the ZIP in the uploader above. Your browser reads the followers and following files locally, compares them, and shows the result straight away. Nothing is sent to a server, and you can close the tab whenever you like.

No login. No password. Your export never leaves your browser.

Instagram shows "Follow back" one profile at a time

Instagram knows exactly which of your followers you don't follow, because it changes the button on their profile to Follow back. It just never collects them. Scrolling your own followers list, you can spot them by the button next to each name, but a list of 1,500 followers is 1,500 rows to scan, and the list isn't sortable or filterable. For a small account that's tolerable; for anything larger it's a job nobody finishes.

The guide to who follows you that you don't follow back covers that manual scan and its limits. The shortcut is the data export, which gives you both lists as files, and a browser can subtract one from the other in a second.

A fan, in this tool's terms

UnfollowChecker splits everyone connected to you into three groups: not following back (you follow them, they don't), mutuals (both), and fans (they follow you, you don't). "Fans" is the shortest honest word for the third group; it doesn't mean admirers, just one-directional followers. Some are people who found your content and liked it. Some are accounts you unfollowed years ago that stayed. Some are spam that follows a thousand people a day hoping for follow-backs.

The date shown beside each fan is the date they followed you, read from the followers file — the opposite direction to the date on the non-followers list, which is when you followed them. That matters for triage: a fan from four years ago is a different proposition from one who arrived this morning alongside fifty others.

Pulling your fans list from the export

Create the export from Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Export your information → Create export, limiting it to Followers and following, with All time, JSON and Download to device selected. Instagram's email usually arrives inside twenty minutes. Upload the ZIP here and the tool reads the followers files and the following file, builds two sets, and shows the size of each difference and of the intersection.

Your fans count appears next to the non-followers count and the mutuals count, with deleted placeholders set aside and counted. Both raw lists download free as CSVs with dates — a complete followers check from one file.

What's free, what's in the add-on

Free: the fans count, the other two counts, the deleted count, a blurred preview of the non-followers list, and CSVs of your full followers and following lists. Paid: the full non-followers list is $2.99, and the fans and mutuals lists together are a $3 add-on on top of that, chosen at checkout. The fans list is shown on screen and emailed as a CSV with username, profile link and the date each account followed you.

If you're handy with a spreadsheet, the two free CSVs are enough to build the fans list yourself — anything in followers that isn't in following. The add-on exists for people who'd rather have it done and sent to them.

What to do with your fans list

Three common uses. First, follow-back candidates: real people who engage and whom you'd be glad to see in your feed. Sorting by date surfaces recent arrivals; the ones who commented on your last post are usually in there. Second, a spam sweep: accounts with no posts, a string of digits in the username and a follow date clustered with dozens of others are the classic pattern, and Instagram lets you remove a follower from your followers list without blocking them. Third, context for the followers vs following comparison — a large fans group is the sign of an account that grows on its own.

Whatever you do, do it by hand and at a human pace. Following back 200 people in ten minutes looks like automation to Instagram, and the follow back checker page explains why that matters.

What this tool can't do

It can't follow anyone back for you, and it can't remove followers; both are done in the app. It can't tell you which fans are bots with certainty — the export has no engagement data, so the only clues are follow dates and what you see on their profiles. It only works on your own export, never someone else's account. And it's a snapshot: the fans list is correct for the moment Instagram built the file, and a new answer needs a new export.

Frequently asked questions

Does Instagram have a list of people I don't follow back?

No. Instagram marks each such profile with a Follow back button but never gathers them into a list, filter or notification. The only way to get the complete set is to compare the followers and following files from your data export.

What date does the fans list show?

The date each account followed you, taken from the followers file in your export. The non-followers list shows the opposite direction — when you followed them — so the two columns mean different things.

Is the fans list free?

The fans count is free. The full fans list, on screen and as an emailed CSV, is part of the $3 Fans & Mutuals add-on bought with the $2.99 non-followers unlock. The raw followers and following CSVs are free regardless.

Should I follow everyone back?

No. Follow back the people whose posts you'd actually want to see. Following hundreds of accounts quickly to be polite fills your feed with noise and can trigger an action block; a fans list is for choosing, not for clearing.

Can I see my fans on TikTok?

Yes. TikTok's Download your data file contains your follower and following lists, and the TikTok checker on this site shows fans, mutuals and non-followers from it in the same layout.

How do I spot spam accounts in the fans list?

Look for usernames that are a word plus a long string of digits, follow dates clustered within minutes of each other, and profiles with no posts. Instagram's Remove option on your followers list drops them without a block.

Ready to check your own account?

Free to see your count. Full list of usernames unlocks for $2.99.
