How to See Who Doesn't Follow You Back on Instagram (2026)
Updated 20 July 2026
Instagram doesn't show you who isn't following you back. There's no built-in list, and manually cross-checking your followers against your following list is impractical once you follow more than a few dozen accounts. Here's the safest way to do it in 2026 — without handing your password to a third-party app.
The safe method: use your Instagram data export
Instagram lets you download a copy of your own data, including your full followers and following lists. Comparing those two lists tells you exactly who you follow that doesn't follow you back. Because you're using Instagram's official export, you never log in anywhere else and never break Instagram's rules.
- Request your data export from Instagram (Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Export your information). Choose JSON format, select Followers and following, and set the date range to All time. Full walkthrough: how to download your Instagram data export.
- Wait for Instagram's email — usually 10–20 minutes — and download the ZIP file.
- Upload the ZIP to Unfollow-Checker. The comparison runs entirely in your browser, so your data never leaves your device.
- See the full list of accounts that don't follow you back, sorted by name or by the date you followed them, and open any profile directly in Instagram.
Why not just use an unfollowers app?
Most "unfollow tracker" apps ask for your Instagram username and password. That violates Instagram's terms of service and is one of the most common reasons accounts get temporarily locked or permanently banned. It also hands your login to an unknown company. We've covered this in detail in is it safe to use Instagram unfollow checkers?
Can I do it manually instead?
Yes, but only for small accounts. Open someone's profile and check whether the follow button says "Follow back" — that means they follow you and you don't follow them. For the reverse (you follow them, they don't follow you), you have to open your own following list and check each account's followers one by one. For an account following 500 people, that's hours of tapping. The data export method takes a few minutes regardless of account size.
Frequently asked questions
Will they know I checked?
No. Downloading your own data and comparing lists is completely invisible to other users.
Does this work for private accounts?
Yes. Your data export includes your full followers and following lists regardless of whether your account is private.
Does this work for accounts with thousands of followers?
Yes. Instagram splits large follower lists across multiple files in the export, and Unfollow-Checker reads all of them.
