See everyone you've blocked on Instagram, with dates

Short answer

Instagram does list your blocked accounts in Settings, but as a scroll with no dates, no search and no export. Your data export includes blocked_profiles.json: every account you have blocked and the day you blocked it. Upload the Followers and following ZIP here to see your count free; the full list with dates comes with the account audit add-on.

Your Instagram blocked accounts list is the set of profiles you have blocked. Instagram records a timestamp for each block and includes the whole list in your data export as blocked_profiles.json, inside the Followers and following category.

How it works

  1. 1

    Request the export

In Instagram, open Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Export your information → Create export. Choose only Followers and following, then All time, JSON and Download to device. That one category includes the smaller files this page reads.

  2. 2

    Download the ZIP

Instagram usually has it ready in 10–20 minutes and tells you by email and in the app. Download it from the same screen; the link only works for a few days, so don't leave it.

  3. 3

    Upload it here

Drop the ZIP on this page. Everything runs in your browser tab and the file is never uploaded. Your counts appear immediately, free.

  4. 4

    Unlock the lists

The full non-followers list is a one-time $2.99. The account audit add-on, $3 on top, delivers this list with dates as a CSV together with the other audit lists.

No login. No password. Your export never leaves your browser.

Where Instagram shows blocked accounts, and what it leaves out

Instagram keeps a blocked accounts screen under Settings → Blocked (the menu wording shifts between app versions, but it lives in the privacy section). It lists everyone you have blocked with an Unblock button beside each name. That is enough for the one thing the screen is built for: unblocking a specific person you can find by scrolling. It is not built for anything else. There are no dates, so a block from last week looks the same as one from 2017. There is no search box on most versions. And there is no way to copy, count or export the list, which starts to matter once it is long enough that scrolling it is a chore.

The same list sits in your data export as a file, with the date of each block. A file can be counted, sorted and kept. That is what this page reads.

What blocked_profiles.json contains

When you export Followers and following from Accounts Centre, the ZIP holds the two main lists plus a handful of smaller files for things you have done, each present only if you have used the feature. One of them is blocked_profiles.json. Each entry is a blocked account: the username, a link to the profile and a timestamp, which is when you blocked it. The tour of the export's files covers the rest of the folder.

Blocked accounts never appear in followers_1.json or following.json, because blocking severs the follow in both directions the moment you do it. So this file is the only record of those relationships the export has, and the only place the dates survive. If the file is missing from your ZIP, you haven't blocked anyone, or you exported a different category.

Getting your blocked list from the export

Create the export from Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Export your information → Create export, choose only Followers and following, then All time, JSON and Download to device. Instagram usually has it ready in 10–20 minutes. Upload the ZIP here. Everything runs in your browser tab; the file is never sent anywhere.

The page shows how many accounts you have blocked, next to the counts the rest of the site is built around: who doesn't follow you back, your fans and your mutuals. Blocked accounts are excluded from those three automatically, since they are in neither main list.

What's free, what's in the audit add-on

Free: the count of blocked accounts, the non-follower, fan and mutual counts, and CSV downloads of your full followers and following lists. Paid: the full non-followers list is a one-time $2.99, and the account audit is a $3 add-on chosen at checkout. The audit delivers this blocked list with dates as blocked.csv, alongside restricted accounts, close friends, pending requests, recent unfollows, accounts hidden from your story and a month-by-month follower growth table, all emailed as CSVs and shown on your results page.

If you only want the blocked list and are comfortable with JSON, you can open blocked_profiles.json yourself in a text editor; the guide to opening the export shows how. The add-on exists for people who want every list cleaned up, dated and in a spreadsheet.

Blocked, restricted, muted, removed: which list is which

Instagram has four ways to push someone away, and only two of them leave a file in the export.

  • Blocking removes the follow both ways and hides your profile from them. File: blocked_profiles.json, this page.
  • Restricting keeps the follow but hides their comments from everyone else and moves their messages to requests. File: restricted_profiles.json, read by the restricted accounts page.
  • Muting hides their posts or stories from your feed and changes nothing for them. No file.
  • Removing a follower drops them from your followers without a block. No file, though they disappear from followers_1.json.

What to do with the list

Most people want one of three things. A count, because the Settings screen doesn't give one. A date, to answer "when did I block this person?" or to find the account blocked during a particular month. Or a cleanup: a long-standing block on an account that has since been deleted, renamed or abandoned does nothing, and the list reads better without it. Unblocking is done in the app, one account at a time; this page can't do it for you, and doing dozens quickly can look like automation to Instagram, so take it slowly.

Accounts that were deleted after you blocked them may appear as placeholders or be dropped from the list, since the export has no username left to show. Everything here is a snapshot of the moment Instagram built the file; a new answer needs a new export.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see who I've blocked on Instagram?

Yes. Instagram lists blocked accounts under Settings → Blocked, with an Unblock button for each. The screen has no dates and no export; your data export's blocked_profiles.json has the same list with the date of each block.

Does blocking someone remove them from my followers?

Yes. Blocking severs the follow in both directions immediately, so a blocked account appears in neither your followers list nor your following list, in the app or in the export.

Do blocked accounts show up in the non-followers check?

No. Because they are in neither main list, they can't be flagged as not following you back. They only appear in the separate blocked file, which this page reads.

Is the blocked list free?

The count is free. The full list with dates is part of the $3 account audit add-on, bought with the $2.99 non-followers unlock, and arrives as blocked.csv by email.

Does the person know I blocked them?

Instagram sends no notification. They stop seeing your profile, posts and stories, and your account doesn't appear when they search for it, which is the only clue they get.

Why is blocked_profiles.json missing from my export?

Either you have never blocked anyone, or the export didn't include the Followers and following category. Files for features you haven't used are simply left out of the ZIP.

Ready to check your own account?

Free to see your count. Full list of usernames unlocks for $2.99.
