UnfollowChecker vs UnfollowCheck
Short answer
UnfollowCheck (unfollowcheck.com) and UnfollowChecker (unfollowchecker.com, this site) are different products from different companies that happen to share a name. UnfollowCheck is a web tool plus iOS app that scans public accounts weekly by username, with push alerts, a widget, fans, mutuals and ghost-follower detection, on weekly, monthly or yearly plans. UnfollowChecker is a web page that reads your Instagram, Threads or TikTok data export in the browser and charges $2.99 once for the full non-followers list.
UnfollowCheck is the bigger product — an iOS app with alerts, a widget, fans, mutuals and ghost followers — and UnfollowChecker is the smaller, cheaper one that also reads Threads and TikTok; the one thing they aren't is the same company.

Where UnfollowCheck (unfollowcheck.com) is stronger
- Native iOS app with push alerts, a home-screen widget and weekly automatic scans — no export routine for public accounts.
- Fans ("Fan Club"), mutuals ("Inner Circle"), ghost-follower detection and follower history in one app.
- Watchlist for up to three other public profiles.
- Free tier is genuinely usable for small public accounts.
What to weigh up
- A different product from UnfollowChecker (this site) despite the near-identical name; the two are run by different companies with different methods and prices.
- Public accounts under 10,000 followers are scanned weekly from Instagram's public pages on their side; private or larger accounts must upload the data export manually — so the automatic features depend on your account being public.
- App Store reviews mention being charged after cancelling a free trial on its last day (Apple bills renewals up to 24 hours before a trial ends).
- Weekly billing at $4.99 and a $34.99/month Pro tier are expensive for what is, for most accounts, a weekly list comparison.
- Instagram only; Android is listed as coming soon and there is no Threads or TikTok support.
- The "Spy Watchlist" and anonymous profile viewing are scraping features that sit outside what Instagram permits, even though your own login is never used.
First, the name
If you searched for one and landed on the other, you're not the first. UnfollowCheck and UnfollowChecker are separate businesses with separate methods, prices and support. We don't make their app and they don't make this site. Nothing you buy on one works on the other. Everything below is our honest reading of their public pages and App Store listing as of the date at the top of this page; if they've changed something, tell us via the about page and we'll re-check.
How each one works
UnfollowCheck never asks for your password either. For public accounts under 10,000 followers, you enter your username and its servers read your public follower data on a weekly schedule, then the iOS app sends push notifications for unfollowers and new followers and shows a home-screen widget. For private or larger accounts, you upload your Instagram data export to the app instead. The web version offers a free username scan showing recent follows and newest followers as a taster, with Pro unlocking unlimited checks, the doesn't-follow-back list, a watchlist for three other public profiles, and anonymous story and post viewing.
UnfollowChecker never connects to your account. You ask Instagram for your own data (Accounts Centre → Export your information → Followers and following, JSON, All time), Instagram emails you a ZIP in roughly 10–20 minutes, and you drop that ZIP on this site. The comparison runs in your browser tab; the file is never uploaded. The count is free, the followers and following CSVs are free, and the two-export unfollowers comparison is free. The full list of who doesn't follow you back is a one-time $2.99, with fans and mutuals a $3 add-on.
Safety and account risk
Both products pass the password check on how we test; neither logs into your account, and neither can get you restricted the way login apps can. The difference is on the private-API check. UnfollowCheck's automatic features depend on reading Instagram's public pages from its servers, which Instagram's terms treat as automated collection; that exposure is theirs, not yours, but it means the weekly scans, watchlist and story viewer exist at Instagram's tolerance. Its export route for private accounts is equivalent to ours.
UnfollowChecker has only the export route. There is no server-side scanning, no watchlist, nothing that reads anyone's profile. That makes it narrower and also makes it immune to access changes on Instagram's side. On the money side, App Store reviews of UnfollowCheck mention being charged after cancelling a free trial on its last day; Apple bills renewals up to 24 hours before a trial ends, so cancel a day early if you try it.
What you get
UnfollowCheck has the longer feature list: weekly unfollower tracking with push alerts, new followers, a non-followers list, fans ("Fan Club"), mutuals ("Inner Circle"), ghost-follower detection, follower history, a widget, a three-profile watchlist and anonymous viewing of public profiles. The app says follower tracking, unfollow alerts and the non-followers list are free for public accounts. It is Instagram only; Android is listed as coming soon, and there is no Threads or TikTok support. We didn't find a CSV export.
UnfollowChecker has the shorter one: the non-followers list, fans and mutuals, free CSV downloads of both raw lists, and a free two-export unfollowers comparison — for Instagram, Threads and TikTok, private accounts included. No app, no alerts, no widget, no watchlist, no ghost followers (an export has no engagement data, so we can't).
- iOS app, push alerts, widget: UnfollowCheck only.
- Watchlist for other profiles: UnfollowCheck only (public profiles).
- Ghost followers: UnfollowCheck claims it; UnfollowChecker can't from an export.
- Threads and TikTok: UnfollowChecker only.
- CSV of your lists: UnfollowChecker, free.
- Private account without an export: neither.
Price
UnfollowCheck's web Pro is about $3 a month billed yearly ($36 a year). In the iOS app, the in-app purchases are $4.99 a week, UnfollowCheck at $8.99 a month, UnfollowCheck Pro at $34.99 a month, or $79.99 for lifetime Pro. The free tier is real for small public accounts: tracking, alerts and the non-followers list without paying, by their description.
UnfollowChecker's count, CSVs and unfollowers comparison are free; the full non-followers list is $2.99 once and fans and mutuals are $3. There is no subscription. For one check, UnfollowChecker is cheaper than any UnfollowCheck paid tier; for a small public account that wants weekly alerts, UnfollowCheck's free tier may cost nothing at all.
When UnfollowCheck is the better choice
Choose UnfollowCheck if you have an iPhone and want push notifications when someone unfollows, a widget, and weekly automatic checks without ever requesting an export — and your account is public. Choose it for ghost-follower detection, which no export tool can do, or for watching a few other public profiles. If your account is public and under 10,000 followers, its free tier may be all you need.
When UnfollowChecker is the better choice
Choose UnfollowChecker if your account is private (both tools need an export then, and ours is cheaper and web-only), if you're on Android or desktop, if you want Threads or TikTok, if you want your lists as CSV, or if you want to pay once and be done. It is also the option with nothing running on a server anywhere — no scanning, no watchlist, no stored profiles. See the iPhone guide for doing the whole thing in Safari with nothing installed.
Frequently asked questions
Are UnfollowCheck and UnfollowChecker the same company?
No. UnfollowCheck (unfollowcheck.com) and UnfollowChecker (unfollowchecker.com) are separate products from separate companies with different methods and prices. A purchase on one does not apply to the other.
Does UnfollowCheck need my Instagram password?
No. It scans public accounts by username on its servers, and private or larger accounts upload their data export to the app. Neither route uses your login.
Does UnfollowCheck work on Android or for Threads?
At the time of checking, the app is iOS only with Android listed as coming soon, and it supports Instagram only. UnfollowChecker runs in any browser and reads Instagram, Threads and TikTok exports.
Which is cheaper?
For a one-off check, UnfollowChecker at a one-time $2.99. UnfollowCheck's web Pro is about $36 a year, and its iOS purchases run from $4.99 a week to $34.99 a month, though its free tier covers tracking and the non-followers list for small public accounts.
Can UnfollowChecker send unfollow alerts like UnfollowCheck?
No. UnfollowChecker has no connection to your account and no app, so it can only compare exports you request. UnfollowCheck's iOS app sends push alerts after its weekly scan of public accounts.
Can either tool show ghost followers?
UnfollowCheck claims ghost-follower detection. UnfollowChecker can't, because Instagram's data export has no like or comment data, and ghost followers are defined by engagement.
