How to Unfollow Everyone Who Doesn't Follow You Back

Step 1: Get your list

1. Request your Instagram data export — select only “Followers and following”, date range All time, JSON format. It's usually ready in 10–20 minutes.
2. Upload the ZIP to UnfollowChecker. It compares the lists entirely in your browser and gives you every non-follower with a direct profile link — sortable by name or by how long ago you followed them.
3. Export the CSV so you can tick people off as you go (it's also emailed to you after unlocking).

Step 2: Decide who actually gets cut

Not every non-follower is dead weight. Before you start tapping, skim the list for accounts you follow because you want their content— news, artists, friends who barely post, meme pages. The point of the cleanup is dropping accounts that give you nothing, not enforcing strict reciprocity. Sorting by “date followed” helps: the accounts you followed years ago and forgot about are usually the easiest cuts.

Step 3: Unfollow at a safe pace

Instagram doesn't publish its unfollow limits, but the community consensus is clear enough: stay under ~50 unfollows an hour, keep it to around 100–150 a day for an established account, and spread a big cleanup over several days. Open each profile from your list, unfollow, and take natural pauses — browse your feed between batches so your session doesn't look robotic. Nobody gets notified when you unfollow, in case you were wondering — it's completely silent.

Work the list oldest-first

If your non-followers list runs to several hundred accounts and your daily budget is a hundred or so, the order you work in matters. The export records the date you followed every account, and the non-followers list can be sorted by that date. Start at the oldest end. An account you followed three years ago that never followed back has had every chance; one you followed last week may simply not have seen you yet, and cutting it now is premature. Working oldest-first means the first day's unfollows are the clearest cases, and anything you don't get to is the accounts with the best remaining odds.

Keep the CSV open while you go and mark each row as done, or delete rows as you unfollow, so a session interrupted by an action block or a phone call picks up where it stopped rather than from the top. The CSV includes the follow date on every row, so you can also set a simple rule, such as “cut everything older than a year, review everything newer”. When the cleanup is finished, request one more export and run it again: the new count confirms the work landed, and the fresh list is your starting point next time.

What NOT to do

• Don't use auto-unfollow apps.Anything that unfollows on your behalf needs your password or session, violates Instagram's terms, and produces exactly the machine-speed pattern that triggers action blocks and bans.
• Don't binge. 400 unfollows in an evening is a bot signature even when a human does it.
• Don't re-follow to “test” people. Follow/unfollow churn is its own spam signal.
