Why Can't I See All My Followers on Instagram? (How to Get the Full List)

Updated 12 October 2026 · Last verified against a real Instagram export 12 October 2026

Short answer: the followers list in the Instagram app is a window onto your followers, not the whole thing. It loads a page at a time, on large accounts it stops loading long before the end, and it silently leaves out accounts that are deactivated, have blocked you, or are restricted. Search within the list finds one person at a time but never shows everyone. The only complete, reliable list is the followers file in your data export, and getting it as a readable CSV takes a few minutes and no login.

The list loads lazily, and then stops

When you tap your Followers count, Instagram does not fetch all of them. It fetches a small batch, waits for you to scroll, fetches the next batch, and so on. On an account with a few hundred followers this is invisible; you scroll to the bottom and everyone is there. On accounts in the thousands the behaviour changes. After a certain depth the spinner either keeps spinning with nothing new, or the list simply ends, and the number of names you have scrolled past is well short of the count in your profile header.

Instagram has never documented where the cut-off is, and it is not a fixed number; reports range from a couple of thousand to around ten thousand depending on the app version and device. The desktop site paginates slightly differently but hits the same wall. This is a limit of the list view, built to keep the app fast, not a sign that followers have been lost. Force-closing the app, clearing its cache, or trying from a different phone sometimes moves the cut-off a little, but none of them reach the end of a large list, and none are worth more than a minute of your time before you turn to the export.

Accounts the list skips entirely

Even on a small account where the list does reach the end, it can still come up short against the header count. Several kinds of account are counted as followers but never rendered:

  • Deactivated accounts. Someone who temporarily deactivated keeps following you in the database but disappears from every list until they come back.
  • Accounts that have blocked you. Blocking does not always remove a follow that existed before the block, but it hides the account from you completely.
  • Restricted and shadow-limited accounts.Accounts Instagram has flagged as spam or bots are often hidden from other users' lists while they remain technically following.
  • Accounts mid-deletion. A deleted account takes up to thirty days to be fully removed and can vanish from the list before it leaves the count.

This is also most of the reason the number in your header and the names in the list do not agree, which is a slightly different question answered in Instagram follower count doesn't match the list.

Search within the list: a partial workaround

At the top of the followers list is a search box. Typing a username there queries the full set of visible followers, not just the pages already loaded, so it will find a follower who sits beyond the scroll cut-off. That makes it the right tool for “does this person still follow me?” It is no use for “show me everyone”, because you need to know the name before you can search for it, and it still cannot surface deactivated or blocked accounts. Bear in mind the results are ranked by relevance to you rather than sorted; the logic is described in Instagram followers list order explained.

The complete list: your data export

Instagram holds the full list and will give it to you on request. Here is the route:

  1. In the app: profile → menu (☰) → Settings and privacy → Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Export your information → Create export.
  2. Choose your Instagram account, Export to device, and tick only Followers and following. Set format to JSON and date range to All time.
  3. Wait for the email (usually under an hour for a followers-only export) and download the ZIP.
  4. Upload the ZIP to the export Instagram followers list tool. It reads followers_1.json, and followers_2.json onwards if your account is large enough to be split across files, converts every timestamp to a date, and gives you a CSV of every follower. The processing happens in your browser; the file is never sent anywhere.

The export includes the accounts the app hides. A deactivated follower, for example, is still listed by username because the follow relationship still exists. The layout of the files is described in what's inside your Instagram data export.

If the export itself looks incomplete

Occasionally the ZIP arrives with fewer followers than expected. The usual causes are choosing a date range other than All time, opening a partially downloaded file, or a large account whose followers are split across several numbered files and only the first was checked. Very large exports can also take much longer than the quoted window, or arrive in several parts; the fixes for each case are in Instagram data export taking too long. Once you have a complete export, re-requesting it every few weeks and comparing the files is also the only honest way to see who has stopped following you, since the app will never list that either.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Instagram followers list stop loading?

The list loads in small pages as you scroll, and on accounts with more than a few thousand followers Instagram stops serving new pages after a point. It is a limit of the list view, not a sign that followers are missing from your account. The complete list is in your data export.

Why can't I find a specific follower in my list even though they follow me?

Deactivated accounts, accounts that have blocked you, and accounts Instagram has restricted are counted in your follower total but hidden from the list view. The account may also simply be beyond the point where the list stops loading. Searching the list by username finds them if they are still active and visible.

How do I see my complete Instagram followers list?

Request your data export with Followers and following selected. The file followers_1.json (plus followers_2.json and so on for large accounts) lists every follower with a date. Upload the ZIP to a free export tool to turn it into a readable, sortable CSV.

Does the Instagram website show more followers than the app?

Sometimes a little more, because the desktop site paginates differently, but it has the same lazy loading and the same hidden-account rules. Neither the app nor the website is a complete list on a large account.
