UnfollowChecker vs FollowSpy
Short answer
FollowSpy (followspy.ai, with an iOS app) lets you enter any public Instagram username and see who that account recently followed, who followed them and who unfollowed them, plus an anonymous story viewer, on plans of $12 or $14 a week. UnfollowChecker reads the data export from your own account in your browser, with no login, and charges $2.99 once for the full non-followers list. FollowSpy is a monitoring tool for public profiles; UnfollowChecker is a one-off audit of your own.
FollowSpy is built to watch other people's public accounts and does that quickly; for your own account, UnfollowChecker gives you a complete answer for less than a quarter of one week of FollowSpy.

Where FollowSpy is stronger
- Shows who any public account recently followed, who followed them and who unfollowed them — a spy tool, not just a self-check.
- Results appear in seconds with no export wait.
- Anonymous story viewer bundled in.
- Native iOS app with a dashboard of tracked profiles.
What to weigh up
- Scrapes public follower and following lists for any username on its own servers; Instagram treats automated collection as a terms violation, though your account is never involved.
- Public accounts only — an App Store review calls it a rip-off after spending about $200, saying the public-only requirement wasn't clear upfront and a refund was refused.
- Weekly billing at $12–$14 is over $600 a year; Trustpilot reviews mention no refunds once a subscription is active and unexpected charges.
- Its Trustpilot profile carried a notice that the company breached review guidelines at the time of checking.
- A separate, unrelated "FollowSpy: Follow Tracker" iOS app ($5.99/week, $24.99/year) shares the name; make sure you know which one you are paying.
How each one works
FollowSpy doesn't ask for your password. You type a username into its dashboard and its servers pull that profile's public follower and following lists, then show recent changes and a timeline. Starter tracks two accounts, Pro tracks unlimited accounts. Results arrive in seconds. It is web-first, with an iOS app from the same company, and it only works on public accounts. Note that a separate, unrelated "FollowSpy: Follow Tracker" app on the App Store ($5.99 a week, $24.99 a year) shares the name; this page is about followspy.ai.
UnfollowChecker never connects to your account. You ask Instagram for your own data (Accounts Centre → Export your information → Followers and following, JSON, All time), Instagram emails you a ZIP in roughly 10–20 minutes, and you drop that ZIP on this site. The comparison runs in your browser tab; the file is never uploaded. The count is free, the followers and following CSVs are free, and the two-export unfollowers comparison is free. The full list of who doesn't follow you back is a one-time $2.99, with fans and mutuals a $3 add-on.
Safety and account risk
Neither tool logs into your Instagram account, so neither can get it restricted. FollowSpy's exposure is on its own side: it collects public data with automated requests, which Instagram's terms don't permit, so the service lives or dies on Instagram's tolerance. The bigger safety question with FollowSpy is financial. Its Trustpilot profile carried a notice that the company had breached review guidelines at the time of checking, with reviews mentioning no refunds once a subscription is active and unexpected charges. One App Store review describes spending about $200 before discovering the public-only requirement, and being refused a refund.
UnfollowChecker has no account on its side either. There is no subscription to cancel and nothing is collected from anyone; it reads a file Instagram gave you, in your browser. Our checks are on how we test. Both tools pass the password check; only UnfollowChecker passes the private-API check.
What you get
FollowSpy shows, for any public account, recent follows, recent new followers, and unfollowers, with growth trends and a story viewer that doesn't notify the account. It is designed for watching other people, and it does that well. It does not produce a full "everyone who doesn't follow me back" reconciliation of your own account, has no CSV export that we could find, and shows nothing for private profiles.
UnfollowChecker gives you the complete non-followers list, fans, mutuals, free CSV downloads of both raw lists, and a free two-export unfollowers comparison, for your own account, private or public. It also reads Threads and TikTok exports. It cannot watch anyone else's account, cannot view stories, and has no alerts.
Price
FollowSpy Starter is $12 a week or $109.99 a quarter; Pro is $14 a week or $127.99 a quarter. Those are shown as 60% off list prices of $30–$35 a week. At $14 a week, a year is over $700. There is no usable free tier — a username search shows a teaser before the paywall. Reviews say refunds are not given after activation, so the first charge is the commitment.
UnfollowChecker: free count, free CSVs, free unfollowers comparison, $2.99 once for the full non-followers list, $3 for fans and mutuals. One week of FollowSpy Starter would pay for the full UnfollowChecker list four times over.
When FollowSpy is the better choice
Choose FollowSpy when the account you want to watch isn't yours and is public — a brand, a competitor, an ex, a public figure — and you want to know who they follow and who leaves them. UnfollowChecker cannot do this at all. Choose it too if you want results in seconds with no export step, and the weekly price is acceptable for a short, specific purpose. If you do, cancel on day one so the renewal doesn't catch you.
When UnfollowChecker is the better choice
Choose UnfollowChecker when the account is your own — especially if it's private — and what you want is the full list of who doesn't follow you back, who unfollowed you, and your raw lists as CSV. It is one payment, no renewal, no refund policy to worry about, and it works without a password on any device with a browser. For the broader case, see checking without a password.
Frequently asked questions
Does FollowSpy need my Instagram password?
No. You enter a username and FollowSpy collects that account's public data on its own servers. Your login is never involved, which also means it cannot scan private accounts.
How much does FollowSpy cost?
Starter is $12 a week or $109.99 a quarter and tracks two accounts; Pro is $14 a week or $127.99 a quarter with unlimited accounts. Reviews mention no refunds after a subscription starts. UnfollowChecker is a one-time $2.99 for the full non-followers list.
Can UnfollowChecker show who someone else follows?
No. It reads a data export, and only the account owner can request one. FollowSpy and similar public-tracking services are the only way to watch an account that isn't yours.
Is there a free version of FollowSpy?
Not a usable one. A username search shows a teaser before the paywall. UnfollowChecker's count, CSV downloads and two-export unfollowers comparison are free, with payment only for the full non-followers list.
Are there two apps called FollowSpy?
Yes. FollowSpy by Follower Find LLC (followspy.ai) is the public-account tracker on this page. A separate "FollowSpy: Follow Tracker" iOS app from a different developer charges $5.99 a week or $24.99 a year. Check the developer name before paying.
